Site Descriptions: Listed from West to East
*An updated map of the sites will be available at the HDTS HQ over the weekend of the event.
Andy's Gamma Gulch Parcel: Located on the large boulders in the middle of Andy Stillpas's Gamma Gulch Parcel, Current projects include Giovanni Jance, Kate Costello,Tao Urban, Chuck Moffett and Ingram Ober, and if you look hard you may still come across Wade Guyton's "X".
Noah Purifoy Foundation: The Noah Purifoy Foundation is the site of an ongoing project by Noah Purifoy who created his own outdoor museum on this 7 and a half-acre parcel for over 13 years. Noah's site is open for viewing on an ongoing basis and is highly recommended to all high desert visitors.
Krblin Jihn Kabin: (Eames Demetrios) The Krblin Jihn Kabin is part of Kymaerica. Like many of the cabins in the area, it was originally used to house defeated heretics. Jihn Wranglicans (a sect of Church of the California Christ) had their lives spared, but only on condition of a form of sectarian house arrest, where they could never leave their cabin and surrounding grounds. Food and water was brought to them by stedlers, young women whose families were unable to support them after the fighting and so were given to the faith. In his isolation, Krblin Jihn himself became an important Biblical translator. This site explores the history and context of this important structure and community, including the remnants of its remarkable compass wheel.
A-Z West: Andrea Zittel's project is the site of ongoing "investigations in living". Her A-Z enterprise encompasses all aspects of day to day living. Home furniture, clothing, food all become the sites of exploration in an ongoing endeavor to better understand human nature and the social construction of needs and desires. Some of the experimental projects that have been developed at A-Z West include the A-Z Homestead Unit, the A-Z Wagon Stations and A-Z Advanced Technologies such as Paper Pulp Pannels and Fiber Forms.
* Please Note! A-Z West is open to the public once a year on pre announced dates. Because this is a personal residence please respect the private drive signs!
Surprise, Terror, Superstition, Silence, Melancholy, Power, Strength: A test site designated by Thom Merrick -A view of a twisted, jagged rock formation that he sees daily on the way to his studio. The site should be seen in relation to his interpretive map and web site of Wonder Valley at www.grnd0.com
